i'm a very frequent mall visitor especially at robinson's place ermita since its the closest mall in our house. i consider it as my second home because all the things I need can be bought there. may it be clothes, shoes, groceries, cakes, pastries, even hardware stuff are in there! also, its the only place i go whenever i'm bored. i can play arcade, sing videoke, race cars, etc.
when they opened their new building called 'midtown', i was more excited than ever! the new mall was bigger, cleaner, and mas malawak. grabe! i was so super happy because new mall means new tambayan, more boutiques, more stores, more restaurants, more arcades, and just a whole lot more!
there i saw the restaurant called 'penang hill'. they serve singaporean and malaysian dishes. i'm not a big fan of other asian cuisine. im already contented with chinese, japanese, and filipino foods and im not into trying new meals. but when i checked out penang hill, everything just changed.
i ate with my family at penang hill and at first, we're a bit clueless as to what to order since it's our first time to eat there. we spent a lot of time absorbing and studying their menu. after 15 minutes, we finally realize that their food was not complicated after all since their food and filipino food is somewhat the same. their names just made it complicated to understnd and to pronounce.
so we ordered a lumpia-like food for starters. it tastes like lumpia and it looks like lumpia except that it didn't used the lumpia wrapper. it was dipped either on flour or on bread crumbs and they dip fried it on a very hot cooking oil. it tastes so good! actually, i can eat it as ulam na. rice na lang ang kulang. hehe... im not sure if the sauce was mayo but it complimented the taste of the lumpia.
quantity they're serving was an issue though. it was just good for three persons. since we're four in the family, we expected a little more on the quantity side.
for our main course, we ordered one large big dome of rice, sweet and spicy pork/ribs (not sure it it ws pork or ribs or other meat), brocolli and mushroom, and grilled chicken. the rice was tasty. you can really taste the flavors into it. you will suely enjoy it. i nailed the sweet and spicy pork/ribs. that's really my favorite. i used to buy it on a point-point (turo-turo) here in our place whenever i don't have ulam. i enjoyed it a lot. its spicyness and at the same time sweetness was present on every bite. if you're a spicy food lover, then this is surely a MUST TRY!

the brocolli and mushroom complimented the sweet and spicy pork/ribs. it washes away the taste of spicyness in your tongue. plus, it's almost like eating a balanced diet when you combined sweet and spicy pork/ribs and the brocolli and mushroom. eating meat and veggie on one meal. delicious AND healthy.
the grilled chicken was ordered by my sis. i didn't quite enjoy it because the chicken tastes like it was cooked on ginger. you can really taste the ginger (very strong grabe!) and walang kalasa lasa yung sauce. i don't know what's the purpose of the sauce but i think it's not delicious (according to my standards)
they also served asian tea but you have to pay 45 pesos for it. its refillable though and its good for 4-8 persons already. sana they make it as a house tea na lang. some good asian restaurants like super bowl of china served those kinds of tea as a house tea. they're giving it for free and it's also refillable. sana ganun na lang din sa penang hill.
price is very affordable. we only spent 980 (walang pang 1k) and yet we left the restaurant with very full tummies. enjoying, satisfying. delicioous, and affordable.
all in all, i recommend everyone to try this restaurant. it's located at 2nd level of robinson's place midtown ermita (in front of the escalator).
